Good Value at Wagga

The Ted Ryder Cup meeting at Wagga today could throw up some good value. The Ted Ryder Cup, named after the late Ted Ryder, who was the lead broadcaster in the Riverina for many years (and a good friend of mine) is the club's second biggest meeting of the year, after their cup meeting, and they have been rewarded with some terrific fields.

I thought GRAGER was pretty good in town last start after getting a mile back and running into traffic in the straight and I am pretty keen on her chances in the cup.

I also think VILAKAZI STREET looks pretty hard to beat in race six on the card.

5...NOTJUSTAPRETTYFACE 1, Gotashotaway 2, Currency Converter 3.

6...VILAKAZI STREET ***1, Turbo Hemi 2, Heads Over 3, Club Zero 4.

7...GRAGER ***1, Kriegspeil 2, Sebony 3, Code Word 4, Regular Aussie 5.

8...THE BOONDOCK SAINT 1, Turn Back Jimmy 2, Zar Express 3, Hurriconi 4, Snipperette 5.

Better Late Than Never

It seems strange with Villiers Day at Warwick Farm today and not Randwick, the last time the Villiers was held at the suburban venue Bart Cummings took the race when he combined with John Marshall to win with Cool River. Today I think Tim Martin can win the feature with his smart mare FIBRILLATION and I think she is one of the better bets on the program.

At Flemington today i was extremely taken with the run of BY THE WAY first up - gee he got home hard after being tailed off at Caulfield and he may just be too good for these horses today in race six. I also expect a big improvement in the last race on the card from BEATBOY. As a three year old this horse looked like he could be top class, but he has obviously had problem. Don't be surprised if he races well at odds today.

At Eagle Farm I think DANAGAZE gets his chance to return to the winners circle today in race five, in what looks like being a solidly run race.

Shatin race today instead of tomorrow asnd they kick in later with an average program. At odds i think TOPPING LIGHT is drawn to run a great race in race 10 and he is my best there.

My Cherie Shows the Benefit Of Patience

I know it was only a Friday afternoon maiden at Canterbury - but for a group of owners put together by Frank Galluzzo's Supreme Syndications - the win of My Cherie last Friday afternoon was a hoot that most of them will not forget.

For Glen Alpine landscaper, Robert Connors, My Cherie is a great introduction to racing. The filly, prepared at Rosehill by Chris Waller, has been a work in progress for some time and the syndicate of owners have had to be very patient with her - and patience is not a virtue that many owners are renowned for.

The Choisir filly has always shown ability - but she has been a bit fragile and even had a good break between her first and second race starts. I met Rob last year when he replaced a retaining wall on my property, and of course, racing was the topic of most of our conversations for the week he was undertaking the task.

Rob explained that the filly had suffered some ups and downs in the attempts they had to get her to the races.

After finishing third at Canterbury on debut, she improved considerably last week to beat a pretty fair maiden field quite convincingly, and doing it against the pattern of the day after a gem ride from Corey Brown.

The filly's win last week showed that she has better wins in store than a maiden and she should easily make the transition to Saturday grade.

The syndicate deserves that for their patience with this flashy chestnut filly.
