Kraken Jokes Tomorrow

KRAKEN JOKES is scheduled to run in the fourth race at the Mudgee secondary TAB meeting tomorrow (only visible on SKY 2) where has topweight of 58kgs. The track, while it has had no rain in the past 24 hours, did cop a shallacking yesterday and two inches of rain have fallen on the track this week and it is a "heavy 9".

The track holds no fears, he is a typical More Than Ready and pretty adept in ran affected going, but it is only his second start in the past 18 months. I thought that he raced well in a very strong race first up at Dubbo and I am sure his chances will be anhanced tomorrow if jockey Justin (W) Stanley can find the top on the horse.

I am also sure he will improve on whatever he does tomorrow but I am hopeful that he will be competitive.

Runners for Weekend

BIG RED CAT goes around today at Canberra in the Benchmark 65 race over 1750 metres. He has topweight of 61kgs, which will be reduced by 1.5 kgs with engagement of in-form apprentice Shaun Guymer.

The horse was a late scratching at Goulburn last week when he kicked his leg in the yard on race morning but according to trainer Colbey Hill, he has pleased her immensely in his work this week. "I have not had a horse work as well for a very long time as he did on Tuesday morning," she told me on Wednesday.

He should be very hard to beat today.

JINGELLIC and STEVE'S GOLD both go to the Cattleman's Cup meeting at Warren on Sunday afternoon and both will be ridden by Justin W. Stanley. Jingellic actually raced very well at Cowra last start and Sunday should be a guide as to whether that was a fluke or the horse has really turned the corner. For mine the jury is still out on that - but on his Cowra run he would be very competitive on Sunday.

STEVE'S GOLD has been extraordinarily disappointing and I cannot tip him with any real confidence. He is backing up after finishing down the track at the Parkes non-TAB meeting last Saturday. He did show something at an early stage of his career, but the wheels have fallen off subsequently. Mick Plummer tells me the horse is working well and will improve on Sunday.

Time will tell.

Big Red Cat Tomorrow and Runners

BIG RED CAT will go around in the last - a benchmark 65 at Gouldburn over a mile at Goulburn tomorrow, with Ronnie Quinton's up and coming apprentice Sam Clipperton on board. He has a big weight, but has drawn well and it is, unlike last time out, not a race over-endowed with early speed.

I am hopeful that he can find the top on his ear and young Sam can just let him roll along in the lead. If he gets that type of run, he will be hard to run down.

JINGELLIC actually surprised me somewhat with his good run at Cowra on Monday where he was luckless in finishing just behind the placegetters.

Robyn Freeman-Key was able to get the horse to settle beautifully back at the tail of the field and she save considerable ground coming to the turn getting between horses. The horse then continually ran into dead ends and had little luck before hitting the line hard.

He may yet win a race!

INORR OF YISHAY will make his debut at Narromine on Cup Day on Sunday with Lauri Wray in the saddle. This son of Seidnazar trialled very nicely behind open class gallopers like Boomerang and Izababe at Wellington recently and Lane Moloney, who rode him the trial, said the horse went very well. He missed the start, has had some subsequent barrier education but is still green - so whatever he does on Sunday he will improve on.

STEVE'S GOLD will go the non-TAB meeting at Parkes on Saturday and Lauri Wray will take the mount. Mick Plummer tells me the horse is going better this campaign - and let's face it - he would need to - but the prospect of rain in the Central West in the next few days does not augur well for him as he dislikes wet tracks.

Runners This Week

JINGELLIC and STEVE'S GOLD both go around in the maiden, the opening race on the card at Bathurst today. They have both drawn awkward barriers but have experienced jockeys in Kevin Sweeney and Justin W Stanley respectively. Perhaps Steve's Gold is the better of the two and is working quite well according to our racing manager Mick Plummer.

Bothg will be ridden cold and for luck and we are hopeful more than confident.

BIG RED CAT will run in the Benchmark 65 at Goulburn on Friday abd will be ridden by Con Karakatsanis' apprentice Yusuke Ichikawa. The horse will get 61.5 kgs and young Yusuke will claim 3kgs so he will only rise a kilogram on what he carried when third in the open handicap at Wagga last time out.

Big Red Cat Sunday

Big Red Cat goes around in the last at Wagga on Sunday with barrier one and champion Riverina jockey Nick Souquet on board.

Trainer Colbey Hill tells me the horse is going very well and she is very pleased with his progress since his second up run at Canberra. I spoke to Nick today and he feels that the horse will get every chance from the inside gate and with the rail out so here is hoping that he can return to his best on Sunday.

I am going to make the trek down on Sunday to meet up with some of my friends from Tumut (make that Brungle) in Ian Yan and his "missus" Rhonda. I am looking forward to the meeting and I am fairly confident that the horse will be very competitive on Sunday.

INORR OF YISHAY TO TRIAL AT WELLINGTON:

Inorr Of Yishay, a Siednazar youngster will have his first trial at Wellington on Monday. I named the horse after Dr Yishay Orr, the heart surgeon whop operated on me at St Vincents Hospital and kept me on this mortal coil.

According to m our Racing Manager in Orange, Mick Plummer, the horse is showing some promise and has been leased to a syndicate of owners. He will either have his first race start at nathirst or at Forbes on Cup Day.

CENTABEEL GOES AROUND AGAIN ON MONDAY:

Even though we no longer own Centabeel he still holds some interest for us through his new owner Bill Ponsonby - who always owned shares in the horse from day dot. He has drawn the outside gate but he should get across easily and Lane Moloney rides him on Monday replacing Daniel Pitomac who won on him at Mudgee.

He should race well and I wish Bill luck with him.

NEXTANIX;

He goes around at Rosehill tomorrow - enough said!
